INDEPENDENT MEDIA IN A TIME OF WAR PLAYS at the MUSEUM OF MODERN ART


Part scathing critique, part call to action, "Independent Media In A Time Of War" argues that dialogue is vital to a healthy democracy. Independent media has a crucial responsibility to "go to where the silence is," says narrator Amy Goodman, to represent the diverse voices of people engaged in dissent. She makes a compelling argument that the news media have failed to represent "the true face of war." Goodman criticizes the refusal to report civilian war casualties during the 2003 Iraq invasion and the new phenomenon of "embedded reporters," as examples of a pro-military bias in the corporate media.

"Independent Media in a Time of War" will be featured in the "Art and Politics: Indie Media Makers Respond" screening of the Documentary Fortnight Program, MOMA's annual exhibition of non-fiction features works that look at provocative issues around the world, offering exciting perspectives on history, politics, cutlurre, art, war, peace, and the human condition.

"Independent Media in a Time of War" is available in VHS (29:13), or as part of a DVD trilogy which includes other HM IMC documentaries "Women's Fast for Peace" and "F15 Voices Against War."
