LEARN WHY MEDIA LITERACY EDUCATION IS MORE IMPORTANT THAN EVER!
and how ways to bring critical thinking into your home or classroom.

This 4-hour hands-on workshop will change the way you watch TV forever! It will give young people and adults a basic introduction to critical thinking and media literacy as well as a behind-the-scenes experience of creating media messages. First, an interactive presentation will explore advertising, identity creation, and the role media plays in our everyday lives with video clips, imagery, and discussion. Then, the group will make media messages of their own using video cameras, microphones, and collective creativity. Participants will break into groups and work together to brainstorm ideas, storyboard the shots, and shoot short PSAs (Public Service Announcements) on issues which are close to them. The finished pieces will then be played back to the entire group and optionally posted on the How To Deconstruct Your TV blog online.

Andrew Lynn is a Media Educator and Technology Consultant currently living in Brooklyn, NY. He received an MFA from RPI in 2002 an now works at Manhattan Neighborhood Network developing peer training curriculum and designing online video sharing networks. Victoria Kereszi is the Director of Programming at Manhattan Neighborhood Network. She recived a Masters Degree in Documentary Film and Women's Studies from NYU in 2002. She has worked as a Media Educator at Global Action Project and MNN Youth Channel.
