Scott Ritter is an outspoken critic of United States foreign policy in the Middle East as a result of his work as a United Nations weapons inspector in Iraq. Prior to the US invasion of Iraq in March, 2003, Ritter repeatedly stated that Iraq possessed no weapons of mass destruction (WMDs). Ritter was widely condemned for this position. Now, much of criticism of US policy has been vindicated.
In 2006 Ritter published "Target Iran: The Truth About the White House's Plans for Regime Change", in which he examines the Bush administration's regime-change policy and the potential of Iran to threaten U.S. national security interests.
MORE ABOUT Iran Working Group: The Iran Working Group is involved in community education and lobbying aimed at preventing a U.S.war with Iran. As part of Upper Hudson Peace Action, the group has initiated an ongoing petition project to oppose military force in Iran These petitions have been presented to local Congressional representatives. Future plans include cultural events and speakers' forums. We hope to bring a deeper understanding of the history of U.S./Iraninan relations, especialy of the rich, complex, and ancient culture of Iran, and to foster peaceful relations between the U.S. and Iran.
WHAT YOU CAN DO TO PREVENT A WAR WITH IRAN:
We are all busy with a thousand things. Please do what you can --- it's important.
If you have 90 seconds
Tell President Bush, No war with Iran! email the White House at
comments (at) whitehouse.gov
If you have 5 minutes
Call Sen. Hillary Clinton (518-431-0120), Sen. Charles Schumer (518-431-4070), Rep. Michael McNulty (518-465-0700), Rep. Kirsten Gillibrand (518-751-2555). Tell them, no war with Iran!
Here are three toll-free numbers you can use to call your own members of the U.S. Senate and House right now, 800-828-0498, 800-459-1887 or 800-614-2803, and tell them No War With Iran.
Ask them to support :
* H.J. (Joint) Res 14, a joint resolution proposed by Rep. Walter Jones (R-NC) requiring Congressional approval prior to use of military force in Iran.
* In the House, support H.R. 770, proposed by Rep. Barbara Lee (D-CA) prohibiting funding for military action against Iran or covert action against the Iranian government.
If you have 30 Minutes
Write a letter to the editor. Some talking points are:
- Iran IS complying with the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty and, under its terms, has the right to develop nuclear energy.
- Concerning “Iranian-made” IEDs (improvised explosive devices): Any weapon can be purchased on the open market. Saudi Arabia is supplying 90% of the aid to insurgents. Ask President Bush to address the real issues.
- Call for diplomatic talks with Iran as recommended in the Baker Report. Suggest the 2003 Road map memo from Iran be considered.
Get Involved - Talk with your friends and neighbors. Schedule a talk on Iran for your group. (Call John, 518-312-6442 or Carole 518-463-0095). Join the Iran Working Group, call 518-463-5907 or e-mail at
