WALK FOR PEACE
Five Years of the Iraq War- Remembering the Fallen- Supporting the Survivors
Sat. March 22, 2008, 1:30pm, NYS Capitol (west side)
We will gather once again to mark another tragedy filled year since the invasion and occupation of Iraq. We continue to bring attention
to the loss of life and liberties since the war began. We ask:
Five Years, How Many More? We invite people to join us from far and near as we work to stop the war and demand a sane foriegn policy.
Spread the word, let's all WALK FOR PEACE . This walk will also highlight the following demands:
* Bring the Troops Home, End the War Now
* Reparations for the Iraqi People
* Money for Jobs, Health Care, Education, Community Needs Not Occupation
* Full Benefits for Returning Veterans
* Restore Our Constitutional Government and Constitutional Rights
* Stop the Torture
* No War With Iran
Saturday, March 22nd we will gather at the New York State Capital Building, West Park at 1:30. We will begin with music, then
briefly we will listen to speakers and then embark on a walking memorial to the many lost at war as we wind through the through the streets of Albany.
Last year a thousand people attended the walk to " Remember the Fallen" carrying the names of victims of the Iraq war. The web site (rememberingthefallen.org)
has a link from the 2007 march where attendes can find the name of a soldier or civilian who has been lost in the war to create a poster or sign to carry
in the march. Attendees can click the 2007 link and go to American and/or Iraqi deaths that link to Iraq Body Count.org and Antiwar.com.
The Peace Walk is sponsored by many local peace groups including but not limited to :Bethlehem Neighbors For Peace, Upper Hudson Peace Action,
Veterans For Peace, Women Against War, Chatham Peace Initiative, Saratoga Peace Alliance, and many others.
The Iraq Veterans Against the War ( IVAW.org) will be just completing the Winter Soldier Actions in Washington D.C. prior to this walk where they will
gather from across the country with panels of Vietnam Veterans, journalists, Gold Star Families and scholars to give testimony about their experiences
in Iraq and Afghanistan. Winter Soldier testimonials first occured during the Vietnam War. We support the Iraq Veterans Against the War and the Veterans
For Peace in their efforts to end war.
We invite our fellow citizens to join us and make our voices heard. We believe that Peace IS Possible and human beings can rise above war to solve conflicts.
There will be a conference April 11 and 12 featuring Cindy Sheehan and others, more to come and information will be available at Bethlehemforpeace.org,
