Inspired by Pepsi-Coke Challenge, New Campaign Will Quiz Area Voters On
Difference between McCain and Bush

This Wednesday in Albany, Hudson & Saratoga Springs, MoveOn members will stage a political protest with a twist—inviting voters to take “The Bush-McCain Challenge.” Voters who take the quiz will try to tell the difference between the policy positions and statements of Senator John McCain and President Bush. The Bush-McCain Challenge is a new twist on the old Pepsi-Coke Challenge.

Wednesday, more than 300 towns nationwide will conduct The Bush-McCain Challenge simultaneously. The national event is part of a major campaign sponsored by the grassroots group MoveOn.org Political Action.

“VOTERS literally can’t tell the difference between President Bush and Senator McCain on issues," stated Richard Reeves-Ellington, Professor Emeritus of Binghamton University and MoveOn member from Delmar. “A vote for John McCain is a vote for a third Bush term, and the Bush-McCain Challenge is a fun and engaging way of reminding voters just how similar Bush and McCain are.” added Dan Marcus, retired teacher in Stockport.

Half a million voters have visited The Bush-McCain Challenge web site to take the quiz since it launched earlier this month. The Challenge is being promoted on CNN.com and other news websites as well as on mini-billboards in battleground states like Florida and Ohio.

The Challenge, which will be conducted at a carnival-style booth, includes questions like:
Q: Who opposed health care for uninsured children last year?
A: Both Bush and McCain. The Children’s Defense Fund even rated John McCain as the worst senator in Congress for children.
Q: After Saddam Hussein was captured in 2003, who said “Mission Accomplished”?
A: McCain. Bush stood under a “Mission Accomplished” banner. But only McCain actually said it.
