The annual People's State of the State Rally will take place on Tuesday Jan. 6 at 11:45 AM at the State St. entrance to the Capitol.

The event, held the day before the Governor's annual address to State Legislators, highlights the need of low-income New Yorkers. Key issues this year will include: raising the basic welfare grant after 18 years; single payer universal health care; housing; improving the state's welfare to work program; progressive tax reform; and job creation, including energy retrofitting one million homes.

Speakers will include Mark Dunlea, Hunger Action Network; Dennis Wheatly, Housing Works; Lara Kassel, Medicaid Matters NY; Ron Deutsch, New Yorkers for Fiscal Fairness; Dr. Andy Coates, Physicians for a National Health Program; and Rev. Deb Jameson, FOCUS Churches. Music will also be provided.
