Indymedia 10th Anniversary Film Festival

Don't miss the excitement Saturday (11/7) from 2-9 PM for the Indymedia 10th Anniversary Film Festival at The Sanctuary for Independent Media, featuring music by Haale!

Ten years ago this month, thousands of peaceful protesters faced down a massive paramilitary force in Seattle--successfully preventing the World Trade Organization from meeting and marking a new era of resistance to corporate globalization.

Their struggle was documented on the ground by a new media activist phenomenon called Indymedia, which has since spread around the world.

Join us this Saturday (11/7), starting at 2 PM, for a day-long film festival celebrating a decade of Indymedia creativity--featuring some of the classics of the movement plus new work by independent producers visiting from across the Northeast.

* 2 PM This is What Democracy Looks Like

The definitive story of the "Battle for Seattle," shot by more than 100 media activists and narrated by Susan Sarandon and Michael Franti with music from Rage Against the Machine.

* 4 PM Indymedia Showcase

A selection of new work and classics by independent media makers joining us from Maine, Worcester MA, Binghamton, Rochester and the NY Capital Region plus a tribute to Brad Will and more.

* 6 PM Potluck

Dine with our visiting Indymedia guests!

* 7 PM The Fourth World War

"A powerful, radical cry from the frontlines of the war on people. This film captures the spirit of resistance: it is as beautiful and global as humanity itself." Naomi Klein

We'll have a cash bar with beer, wine and sodas plus snacks! Admission by donation ($10 suggested, $5 student/low income).

Also on Saturday, at 9 PM, Haale!

Help us cap off the Indymedia 10th Anniversary Film Festival with a performance by the stunning Persian- American singer/songwriter/poet Haale at 9 PM on Saturday (11/7).

Her last appearance in the Capital Region was at the Troy Savings Bank Music Hall, along with Odetta, Hugh Masekela and other artists featured in the "Songs of the Spirit" extravanganza.

This rare solo performance will feature new songs as well as her album No Ceiling, hailed by the Boston Globe as "one of the most memorable releases of 2008."

$10/free with festival admission.

Now available! The new HM IMC video production "Awake From Your Slumber" with Ralph Nader and Patti Smith, from the makers of "Independent Media In A Time Of War"!
