Say No to War with Iraq

The Women's Fast for Peace provides women in the Capital District and beyond an opportunity to make a personal statement opposing President Bush's rush to war with Iraq. The Fast is part of a worldwide effort to mobilize women to create a culture of peace rather than of war.

Beginning December 5, 2002 at 5:30pm, women in the Capital District will begin a chain of fasting for peace at the Women's Building in Albany. Women are needed to sign up for the fast for a 24-hour segment, from 5:30pm until 5:30 the following day.

Friends and supporters are welcome to visit you during this time, but we need women to commit to a specific day in December and possibly beyond. During the 24-hour period of fasting you can do specific work to support Women Against War, read, paint, think, talk, call members of Congress, write, sleep, meditate, or whatever you wish.

Information and support will be provided once you sign up. You will also be invited to a kick-off news conference in Albany on December 5th - to announce the Fast and to stand with the group of women who will be fasting.

Women Against War is a new network of women who oppose war in Iraq. We are raising our voices against war and to challenge the US to redirect its resources and energy to combatting racism, poverty and violence against women. WAW strives to expose the connetions between US military agression and the oppression of women, particularly women of color. Our mission is to empower, educate and motivate women and girls to stop war and demand social justice. We are organizing this Fast to remind our elected officials that they are not invading Iraq in our names.
